曼谷郵報與BBC 14日報導，泰國一列由曼谷開往烏汶的火車行經四球縣（Sikhio）時，撞上倒塌的建築起重機。警方證實已有22人死亡，另79人受傷，有8人傷勢嚴重。
這起事件發生於當地時間上午9時05分，地點位於曼谷東北方約230公里的四球縣班他暖科村（Ban Thanon Kod ）鐵路路段。事發當時，該列車正駛往烏汶府，多支救援單位隨即趕赴現場展開搶救。
泰國國家鐵路局（SRT）表示，該列車為21次特別快車，共有三節車廂。根據座位表，乘務人員與乘客總計 195人。
初步報告指出，一座用於建設高鐵橋梁的起重機倒塌，橫跨鐵軌並阻斷通行。一列駛近的客運列車撞上倒塌的起重機後脫軌，並引發其他建築材料掉落至車廂上。碰撞引發火災，救援人員必須使用液壓切割機，從殘骸中救出受困乘客。不過，BBC的報導中有不同的說法，呵叻府警監塔差蓬（Thatchapon Chinnawong）向BBC表示：「建築起重機倒塌，砸中了一列正從曼谷出發的行駛中火車。」
傷者隨後送往四球、嵩能（Sung Noen）以及瑪哈拉那空叻差席瑪（Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima）等醫院救治。副總理兼運輸部長皮帕（Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn）表示，他已收到相關報告，並命令SRT調查起重機倒塌的原因。
